What is the EASIEST way to register?
The fastest, simplest, and least costly way to register is Online by clicking Register or Donate
Online on the Race for the Cure Tab www.komenchattanooga.org. At our
online registration site, you can register for yourself and other family members, form a team, join
an existing team and fundraise to receive great incentive prizes.
What if I can’t register online?
It’s not a problem. You can complete an individual Entry Form that can be downloaded from this
website by clicking on the Print Application link under the Race for the Cure tab at
www.komenchattanooga.org or by picking up a form at one of the Ford Dealers or Sports Barns in the Chattanooga Area or at Fast Break
Athletics at 16 Cherokee Blvd or The Front Runner at 4251 Hixson Pike.
If you need personal help call our Registration Coordinator, Sheril Miller at 423-499-9155 or email her at smiller@komenchattanooga.org.
Can I register in person?
Yes. The entire week before the Race, you can register and pick up your t-shirt and Race
number at the Susan G. Komen for the Cure office in the Eastgate Town Center.
Registration Hours:
Sunday, September 23, from 1 to 5 p.m.
Monday through Friday, September 24 through 28, from 3 to 7 p.m.
To get to the Komen office, enter Eastgate on the east (post office) side at the Eastgate Town
Center Café entrance. Walk to the center of the mall and turn right. Go to the first set of double
glass doors on the right. Chattanooga Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® on right door.
You can also register in person and pick up your t-shirt and Race number at the McKenzie
Arena on Saturday, September 29 from 12 to 5 p.m. and on Race day from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30
p.m.
If I register online or by mail, can I pick up my t-shirt and number before Race
day?
You do not have to wait in line on Race day, you can pick up your t-shirt and number at the
Komen office or at the McKenzie Arena at the times listed above.
What if I can’t make it to the Komen office or the Arena the day before but
don’t want to wait in line on Race day?
You can have a friend pick your t-shirt and number up for you, or you can pay $10 for mailing
when you register. Your items will be mailed to the address on your entry form or online
registration form if you are not on a team. (Team Captains pick up t-shirts, numbers etc for all
team members the week before the Race.)
I am planning to push my baby in a stroller on Race day. Is that okay?
Sure, many people bring their children to the Race for the Cure®, however you must register
your child. This is mandated by our insurance policy. We do have a 12 month or 2T size t-shirt
for your child --- and don’t forget where your registration fee goes.
I always run with my dog, can I bring my dog with me?
Sorry, not this time. The university doesn’t allow animals. Anyway, we sure wouldn’t want
anyone to trip over your dog and hurt it (or themselves).
Is this a Race or a Walk?
It is both/either. There is a 5K (3.1 miles) event that starts at 2:00 p.m. and a 1-Mile event that
starts just after the 5K. Some people pay $5 more to get a special timing device that comes on
their Race number (it will come in the mail if they pay extra for mailing). These people get to
start the 5K first and are eligible for Race awards. This is the smallest group of participants.
Another group, a little larger will jog the 5K course and will start behind the competitive racers.
The largest group of participants will walk either the 5K or the 1-Mile. Another group will run the
1-Mile, but this event is not timed and there are no awards.
If both events start one right after the other, how will I know which event I
am in?
Course officials will ask participants to line up according to which event they wish to participate
in. At one place on the course those participating in the 5K will go straight, and those
participating in the 1-mile will be asked to turn to their right to go to the finish line.
My Mom is a survivor, will she and I get to run or walk together?
Yes. Everyone participates together, although there are special awards for Survivors who sign
up for the 5K Competitive event.
There is a place on the form that asks “Would you like to be recognized as a
breast cancer survivor by receiving a complimentary pink cap and T-shirt”.
Since I am coming with my Mom who is a Survivor, do I check that box?
No. This is only checked by the person who is a Survivor, not their friends or family. Your Mom
will check the box on her form but you won’t.
I heard the course changed this year, why?
The City of Chattanooga asked us to change our course so that we did not use or cross 4th
Street to allow for easy access to the hospitals in the area. We were happy to change the
course to one that winds through the beautiful Fortwood area.
Could you tell me what Sleep in for the Cure® is?
Sleep in for the Cure® is a category for people who want to support the Race for the Cure® but
can’t make it to the Race on September 25. This category gives them the opportunity to make a
donation, receive a Race t-shirt and beautiful pillowcase, but not attend the event.
Can I be on a team and still sign up for Sleep in for the Cure®?
You sure can. Your entry will count toward your team’s total number of participants even though
you won’t be attending the event.
How many participants are on a team?
A team must have at least ten (10) members. The members do not have to participate in the
same event. Some can run, others can walk. Some can do the 5K, others the 1-Mile. All team
members must, however, register online. Team members cannot have their t-shirts and Race
numbers mailed to them. Team captains will pick up t-shirts and Race numbers for everyone on
their team.
Can my Team design our own t-shirt?
Yes, many teams like to wear their own creations. There will be 1st, 2nd and 3rd place awards for
best team identifier, whether it be t-shirts, hats, scarves, whatever. Please note that the Komen
Race for the Cure® logo and the Komen Ribbon may not be used on custom apparel. Every
team will receive a sign at t-shirt pickup.
Do I have to raise money to participate or to get a t-shirt?
No, you never have to fundraise for the Race for the Cure®. It is always optional. You will
receive your Race t-shirt just by paying your entry fee. However, if you decide to fundraise
there are some great incentive gifts this year. Click on Incentive Award Information to see the
2011 prizes.
I am planning to fundraise this year to raise money to fight breast cancer and
so I can get one of the great incentive prizes. If I register
online, do I have to do all of my fundraising online?
No, you can fundraise both online and offline. The online system can help you with your offline
donations though. Once you register, you can go back to your fundraising page to manage your
cash and checks as well as other helpful tasks.
If I raise enough money to win a prize, where and when will I get it?
You will pick up your incentive award at the Friends for the Cure tables in the center of the
Arena floor by the Shop for the Cure tables on Race day. Your name and your prize level will
be on a list at the Friends for the Cure tables.
Will I be notified that I am getting an incentive prize?
No, there is no notification. You will simply go to the Friends for the Cure table, tell the
volunteers your name and pick up your prize.
Will I be notified that you received my registration?
If you register online, you will receive an email confirmation to the email address you entered
during the registration process. If you register by mail, you will not get a confirmation. You will
receive your t-shirt and race number before the race if you paid the extra $10 to get them mailed
to you. Otherwise, you can check with your bank to see if your check has cleared to know that
we received your entry.
