Team Captain Tools

NOW is the time to start planning your team for the 2011 Komen Chattanooga Affiliate Race for the Cure®. Team Captains must register first to create your team. Each team member can then register by clicking "Join a Team" and searching for the Team name. Your team registration fee gets you to the start line, but it's team fundraising that will help find the cures!

Download the Team Captain Toolkit. It contains everything you need to know about starting a team, adding team members, and fundraising as a team!

Team Captain Checklist

Use this checklist as a reminder of your next steps and to help you keep track of your progress.

  • Register as a team captain here.
  • Choose a team name.
  • Set a goal for the number of people you will recruit. If your company team is open to non-employees, tell team members to recruit their families and friends to join the team.
  • Display event materials — brochures and posters — around the office, campus, cafeterias, break rooms, gyms, and other high traffic areas. Put your name, phone number, and/or email address on the posters so people can contact you to get involved.
  • Post a progress chart with your fundraising and recruitment goals in a visible area and update totals regularly.
  • Make a personal self donation first!
  • Host a kick-off meeting or event and invite the Susan G. Komen for the Cure® staff to make a presentation.
  • Send fundraising tips out to all your team members, highlight the teams top fundraising member.
  • Create fundraising incentives so that all your members meet or exceed their goals.
  • "LIKE" the 2011 Team Captain Facebook page!
  • Remind team members to log on to their fundraising pages to record all offline donations and send thank you notes.
  • Download a 2011 Offline Donation Form

The Team Captain must register first and create the team before team members can join the team. A team is a group of 10 or more participants who register under a common team name. Any company, family, group of friends, club, community organization, school, or faith group can form a team. Team captains recruit team members for your team, encourage team participation and fundraising, and organize events for your team. You help your team members have the tools they need to raise donations and recruit more tea

Team Captains stay organized with the Team Captain ToolKit!

Key points to remember:

  • Take full advantage of the features available on your team’s webpage.  For example, money donated online is money that you do not have to keep track of! Click here to login to your participant center.
  • Verify paper registration forms from your team members. (correct team name listed, each form is signed, etc.)
    • Collect all of your team’s donations and turn them in to the Komen office by September 28rd to be eligible for Team Awards.  Donations for the Race will be gladly accepted after the 23rd, but will not be credited towards your final team tally for awards.
    • For those not able or willing to donate online, you may collect cash or checks made payable to Komen Race for the Cure. However please attach the Offline Donation Form with all donations sent into the office, Offline Donation Form. Cash and checks are considered offline donations. Please allow at least 2 weeks for donations to post after mailing. Note: it’s very important to keep track of all donations you receive.
